Welcome Jim Sayers of Adventure Cycling!

Michigan Trails and Greenways Alliance is excited to have Jim Sayers in Lansing this week for the Michigan Bicycle Summit! Jim is Executive Director of Adventure Cycling Association, the largest bicycling non-profit in the U.S. with more than 44,000 members. Adventure Cycling’s mission is to inspire people of all ages to travel by bicycle for fitness, fun and self-discovery. Jim will give us an update at the Michigan Bicycle Summit on progress with the US bike route system as well as other new initiatives underway, such as the Underground Railroad Bicycle Route, which includes our friends from Detroit! Speaking of Detroit and the Underground Railroad Bicycle Route, Jim will also give a talk at the International Institute of Metropolitan Detroit at 111 E. Beaufait Greenway Community Visioning Meeting

Gleaners Community Food Bank is hosting a community forum in Detroit on March 3rd. The forum is to discuss the concept of developing a greenway on the abandoned rail corridor connecting the riverfront to Gratiot Avenue between Beaufait and Bellevue streets. The presentation portion will provide an overview of the project and its connection to similar projects in Detroit and lead to an open discussion on the feasibility of this effort and the opportunity for community member input, questions, and concerns.

Refreshments will be served.

6:30 PM presentation followed by questions/answers

Underground Railroad Meeting in Detroit

Celebrate Detroit’s Underground Railroad history with the Adventure Cycling Association, the Michigan Trails and Greenways Alliance and the Michigan Freedom Trail Commission.

Learn about Adventure Cycling’s Underground Railroad Route, updates on greenways and trails in the Detroit hub, and the Freedom Trail Commission’s efforts to designate the Detroit River as an International Heritage Site. Join us as we celebrate Detroit’s cultural heritage!
